Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, has unveiled the first digital mobile mammogram coach in Nigeria.
At the event, Ambode advised women to take advantage of the new technology to save their lives as she said it was a giant leap in the fight against breast cancer.
“The unveiling of this digital mobile mammogram coach, the first of such facility in Nigeria, offers reassurance to all of us that the world is winning the war against the disease. This equipment brings to our doorsteps, the opportunity to access regular medical check-up for early detection of any unwholesome development around the breast.
“I deeply commend this giant stride by Lilly Women’s Health. It is noteworthy and a significant development in the concerted effort to stamp out breast cancer and other types of cancer from our society,” Ambode enthused.
According to Lilly Women’s Health, a group of medical professionals that brought the technology into the country, the move was inspired by the need to provide women with breast cancer affordable services that will help save more lives.
Speaking at the unveiling of the equipment, a radiologist and member of the group, Dr. Lily Iboma said the move would not only boost the fight against the deadly disease, but also improve the health of women in the society.
She said, “The arrival of this mobile mammogram coach would help the fight against breast cancer in the country. There have been several awareness campaigns on breast cancer, but now is the time for action. This equipment will help women in detecting the disease early because this machine would meet them where they work, trade and worship. It has been designed for their convenience.”
